Freshman and JV teams enjoy winning Seasons

Ending on a winning note, the Freshman squad finished the season 8-1-1, a remarkable record, which overshadowed the 7-2-1 record of the 2009 frosh team. QB Cam Costa was the leader of the team, with his repitoire of big plays on both sides of the ball. Two of the better freshman players were not present, due to injuries and moving up to varsity, this only opened doors for kids like Corey Pemberton to make a name for himself as well as Zach Bernard. Corey Lewis was a standout at split-end and defensive end, and the Lakers will look for big things in the future from fullback/linebacker Wes Cohen and linebacker Brian Kent. Andrew Frigault played one freshman game, before moving up to varsity to play as linebacker.

The JV season had a successful run again ending 5-2-1, same as last year. Leading the way were Derren Levesque and Logan Hunt. Both will be expected to jump right in at the varsity level next year. Other big performers included the speedy Jon McCarthy and the hard hitting Jeff Lopes. The young offensive line improved over the season, seeing some fine play from Nate Noguiera and Russell Sousa.

Bois hits full stride for Mass. Maritime (from Boston Globe South)

MIKE BOIS has picked upright where he left off with the Massachusetts Maritime football team. Through the first two games, a pair of losses, the junior linebacker has a team-high 18 tackles (13 solo).

The 5-foot-10-inch, 190-pound tri-captain recorded a career-high 10
solo tackles in a season-opening 15-12 loss at New York Maritime in
the 4th annual Chowder Bowl, earning a selection on the New England
Football Conference weekly honor roll. He added eight tackles (three
solo) in a 30-6 loss at Western New England College on Sept. 11.

Coach JEREMY CAMERON said Bois, a two-year starter, provides
strength and leadership for this young defensive unit. Bois was the
team’s top defensive performer in 2009 with 75 tackles, one
interception, one sack, and a forced fumble.

“Mike seems to be in the middle of every play, and that’s a testament to both his ability and work ethic,” Cameron said. "He’s emerged as one of our team leaders, and with a young group we have on defense, his experience will play a large role in our success.” Massachusetts Maritime closes out a three-game road trip Saturday at MIT before opening its home schedule on Sept. 25th against Coast Guard.

Zack McCabe continues to have a fine collegiate career as the kicker for St. Anslem College, NH. Last season he was the third leading scorer on the team kicking PAT's and was 4 of 5 in field goal attempts.

Matt Gaouette has taken a medical redshirt at Bridgewater State University for his torn quad. He looks to return next season fo the Bears.
